TTP Peer Mentor
I am Jimena Hernandez-Garcia, and I am currently a fourth year Electrical Engineering major. I am pursuing a career in electrical engineering because I would like to be an astronaut one day, just like the astronaut in who inspired me- Jose M. Hernandez. I see a lot of myself in Jose M. Hernandez; we both have Mexican roots and both of our families were farmworkers. I transferred from Norco College in winter 2018. Along with being a peer mentor for the Transfer Transition Program, I am also a Housing Services Ambassador, where I work in the front desk at the Glen Mor Resident Services Office and occasionally give housing tours. TTP offered me a welcoming environment in which I was able to make connections with students who came from similar backgrounds as myself. Attending the socials and study jams allowed me to talk to the peer mentors and learn from their experiences. I am grateful for all the peer mentors that helped me throughout my first year at UCR. I aspire to be able to do the same for incoming transfer students.
