Hello, my name is Norma Menjivar and I am a fourth year Environmental Engineering major, and I transferred from San Bernardino Valley College in the fall of 2016. While I was in community college I was an environmental science major, and became an environmental engineering major during the end of winter 2018, thanks to the help of Dr. David Cocker. When I transferred I was in the HSI-STEM Research in Science and Engineering Program, and that is how I started undergraduate research in Dr. Daniel Schlenk's aquatic ecotoxicology lab; where we investigate potential or known toxins in the environment and study their effects in marine life. In addition to being a BCOE peer mentor, I am also the academic coordinator for CAMP, or the California Alliance for Minority Participation. CAMP’s mission is to encourage and support minorities in pursuing research and graduate programs in STEM, and as academic coordinator I oversee the book-loan program and write the quarterly newsletter. For the near future, I hope to pursue a graduate program and Ph.D degree in Environmental Engineering, after a few years of working in the industry first. If you have any questions concerning academia or campus life, please don't hesitate to ask me!
